Million's Crab to open in former TGI Fridays

Million’s Crab Boiled Seafood, a Cajun seafood chain based in Ohio, is coming to Springfield as part of an extensive expansion throughout the Midwest.

Marketing director Commi Tong said that Million’s Crab plans to open Nov. 1 in the former TGI Fridays space at 2100 W. White Oaks Dr. Tong said that remodeling work is nearly complete and the business is waiting on inspections.

Other new locations are in the works in the Chicago area, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and Minnesota, according to Tong.

“We want to bring people low-country boiled seafood,” said Tong, referring to the uniquely flavored seafood for which the restaurant is known. The menu includes crab, clams, mussels, shrimp, lobster and more. The seafood is boiled in Cajun seasoning and topped with a choice of sauces such as garlic butter, lemon pepper, Szechuan or a special Million’s sauce. There are also more classic American dishes such as burgers, wings and pasta.

According to the company’s website, the founders of Million’s Crab also created the Juicy Seafood and Naked Crab franchises.

Tong said the company will soon start hiring cooks and servers for the Springfield location. Operating hours will be 11 a.m.-10 p.m. with an extended closing time of 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
