John Kelker has announced his intention to retire as president and chief professional officer of the United Way of Central Illinois (UWCIL), effective April 1, 2022.
Kelker began his career as president of the local United Way in 1996. During his tenure, Kelker has grown the organizations resource development efforts while embracing a national Community Impact model. The Springfield United Way has been a leader in requiring funded partner accountability for the funds donated to its annual campaign. Kelker has been active in the community through numerous civic organizations as well as state and national United Way efforts.
Kelker indicated that he and his wife, LuAnn, plan to stay in the Springfield community after his retirement to remain close to family and friends.
A search committee will be formed to begin efforts to secure a successor. Board chair Cass Casper stated, John has been the face of United Way in our community for more than 25 years and will be missed. His early notification will provide the time needed to conduct a proper search, secure his successor and make a seamless transition.
