Kris Sterbinsky, a longtime employee of Turasky Meats, has purchased the business founded in 1949. Sterbinsky said he is already familiar with both small business ownership and the meat industry.
“I grew up as part of a family lawncare company,” he said. “And I’ve been in the meat industry for 21 years now. Prior to joining Turasky’s, I ran a meat plant in Peoria for about five years. Then I started here in sales to help expand the product line and distribution.”
For the past 15 years, Sterbinsky has worked at Turasky Meats, the company founded by Joe Turasky and later operated by Joe’s son, Brad Turasky. The business began as a slaughter facility and now operates a meat processing facility at 1129 Taintor Lane, near the Illinois State Fairgrounds. In 2020, the company purchased a second property at 2601 Colt Road to expand production capabilities for co-packer and private label products such as snack sticks, whole muscle jerky, cooked sausages and more.
That business line, Prairie Sky Snacks, later merged with Western Smokehouse Partners and Brad Turasky took on a full-time role there. For the past five years, Sterbinsky has been overseeing day-to-day operations for Turasky Meats. As of June 1, he is the new owner of the company.
“I’ve had a lot of questions from customers, but nothing is really changing,” Sterbinsky said. “We’re still providing the same quality products and the same customer service that we’ve been providing for years.”
