Sonny Adams, owner of Adams Pest Control, has launched a new business with his son, Parker Adams, at the helm.
HuntCo Land Management is headquartered at 1550 Recreation Dr., the same location as the family’s pest control business, but has a very different focus.
“We’re outdoors people; my kids have grown up in the outdoors,” said Sonny Adams. “When Parker was in grade school, he came home and wrote down that he wanted to have a business called HuntCo and take care of hunting properties. It’s been a dream of his for the longest time.”
Now a junior at Illinois State University majoring in business and agriculture, Parker Adams has gone through the process of setting up an LLC and obtaining an SBA loan to purchase a Bobcat and other equipment.
“We’ll do dirt work with a Bobcat, plot clearing for hunting, fence row clearing,” said Sonny Adams. “We’re getting ready to do a project out at Frito Lay, doing some fence work for those guys.”
While Parker Adams has another year of college to complete, Sonny Adams said he can take quite a few of his classes online and has a flexible schedule that will allow him to keep the business going.
The father and son plan to attend some trade shows later in the year to help spread the word about the new business venture. “Everything is coming together pretty well so far,” said Sonny Adams.
