The former Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant in Legacy Pointe has a new owner, although not a new occupant as of yet.
Fadi Rehan, manager of Auto Mall of Springfield, confirmed to SBJ that he purchased the property as an investment. He currently has the 8,500-square-foot building listed for lease. “It’s completely turnkey, everything is in there – the tables, chairs, all of it,” he said.
Quaker Steak & Lube opened its first Illinois location in October 2011 at 1121 Lincolnshire Blvd, just south of Scheels. The restaurant closed abruptly less than three years later, with corporate representatives citing the previous harsh winter, the economy and delays in building a planned outlet mall nearby.
Plans for The Outlets, an 80-store outlet mall, were originally announced in 2012. The initial developer, Global Outlet Management, filed building permits in 2017 but is no longer involved in the project.
More recently, a major sports complex has been proposed for Legacy Pointe. The developers are currently working with the City of Springfield in an effort to secure various subsidies and incentives to build the $65 million project, which would be done in phases.
