Golden Hour Bake House plans downtown storefront

Golden Hour Bake House has been a fixture at the Old Capitol Farmers Market for three seasons, and now owner Alli Donaldson is working on a brick-and-mortar location downtown.

“We launched in May 2021 at the Old Capitol Farmers Market, and as business progresses, we’ve been eyeing some storefronts and looking at taking that next step,” Donaldson said. “We’re so engrained in downtown culture, it made sense to be located there.”

She’s been focused on Golden Hour Bake House full time for the past three years, but Donaldson said she’s been baking for as long as she can remember. “I’ve been in the restaurant industry since I was 16, and done just about any job you can think of,” Donaldson said.

Donaldson said she is “in negotiations with a storefront downtown” and plans to finalize the lease within the next 30 days. In the meantime, she’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise capital toward the cost of renovations and kitchen equipment. In addition, she plans to host some community events over the next few months to help with fundraising.

Donaldson hopes to have her storefront open by January, and Golden Hour Bake House will continue to be a vendor at the Farmers Market through the end of October. The bakery is known for traditional American-style breakfast pastries as well as its gluten-free and vegan offerings.
