Adams Pest Control buys former Springfield Archery Building

After more than a decade on MacArthur Boulevard, Adams Pest Control is preparing to relocate to a larger space. Owner Sonny Adams says he explored numerous options before purchasing the building at 1550 Recreation Dr., next to Knight’s Action Park.

Adams rents his current space at 1425 S. MacArthur Blvd. and talked to the owner about purchasing it and the adjacent properties, but ultimately felt the size was limiting, along with the fact that the property is a former house that’s been converted to an office. “We also looked at another building on MacArthur that we were going to completely renovate, but it got torn down due to environmental issues,” he said.

He considered new construction and looked at land in Sherman, but ran into issues with the village’s design restrictions since a portion of it would have been a steel building. Now, Adams has the former Springfield Archery building under contract and has big plans once he closes on the property in a few weeks.

“We’re going to completely rehab the office area, do new siding, new roof, façade and stone work,” he said. “We’ll have an area for the vehicles and a full working shop right there on site. Right now, the guys take their vehicles home because we don’t have enough space.”

With around 9,000 square feet, the new location will be significantly larger, and Adams hopes to have it ready for occupancy shortly after the first of the year.

“It will take a bit of work, but we’re excited to finally lock down a place and get going,” he said.
