Storage construction project underway

Despite the winter weather, construction work is underway at the corner of Constitution Drive and Cockrell Lane. The first phase of the project involves building 148 mini-storage units of various sizes on a 2.7 acre site, which allows room for future expansion.

The new business, Secure Storage USA, is comprised of a local ownership group that includes Robert A. Springer, who also owns Cardinal Cleaning, headquartered nearby on Mayflower Boulevard.

“Our model is a little bit different,” explained Springer, referring to the recently completed storage unit project a short distance away behind Target. “We’re trying to cater to some commercial clients and we’ll have units that are a little bit taller for trucks with trailers, Bobcats, that sort of thing.”

The first phase will include an 8,000-square-foot building with taller doors and ceiling heights dedicated to commercial users. “Our foundations are going in right now, and I hope we have these units ready to lease by the end of January,” said Springer.

“Hopefully in 2020, depending on how things move, we’ll have another 100-120 units in phase two.”
