Skechers is planning to open its first freestanding store in Springfield. A company spokesperson told SBJ a late August or early September opening is tentatively planned for the store at 2691 Veterans Parkway.

The space is currently being remodeled following the departure of Treasure Hunt Deals, which relocated to 2930 Constitution Dr., across from Target, in April. The building initially housed the home goods retailer Pier 1, which closed all of its locations nationwide after filing for bankruptcy in 2020.

Skechers already has 20 locations in Illinois, all in the Chicago area. However, the California-based footwear and apparel company has announced plans to expand its retail presence in the U.S., adding 180-200 stores in the coming year. The company generated record sales of $8.97 billion in 2024, a 12.5% increase over 2023.

Skechers currently has more than 5,200 retail locations worldwide. In 2024, the company had 3,509 licensee and franchise-owned stores in the U.S., plus another 610 corporate-owned stores and another 1,177 international locations.

  1. I’m sure the expansion of pickleball in Springfield was a driving force for the new store. Skechers has the best pickleball shoes for this sport by far.
