Wahlburgers arrived in Springfield in 2020 when Hy-Vee converted its Market Grille to a location for the Boston-based hamburger chain, but it's now coming full circle. Parent company Hy-Vee, Inc. has announced that it will transition all its in-store restaurant locations across the Midwest to Hy-Vee Market Grille locations.
"This will take the place of Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee (in Springfield)," said Tina Potthoff, senior vice president of communications for Hy-Vee, Inc. "The new Market Grille breakfast will be the first launch and that will occur Feb. 4, then the new Market Grille lunch and dinner menu will launch in mid-February."
Potthoff said Wahlburgers lunch and dinner menu items would still be offered until mid-February when the conversion back to Market Grille is complete.
Wahlburgers was founded in 2011 by chef Paul Wahlberg, brother of actors Mark and Donnie Wahlberg. In 2020, Hy-Vee announced plans to convert 20 of its Market Grille locations to the Wahlburgers brand, and the Springfield store was the first one in Illinois when it opened in July of that year.
Hash browns are also returning to the new breakfast menu. Other traditional breakfast items will include omelets, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast and a breakfast burrito.
Weekday hours for all Market Grille locations will be 6-11 a.m. for breakfast and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. for lunch and dinner. Breakfast will be available 6 a.m.-2 p.m. on the weekends with a special brunch buffet offered at select locations. All Market Grille locations will offer both dine-in and carry-out service, as well as third-party delivery.
After the transition, Hy-Vee will have a total of 221 Market Grille and Market Grille Express locations across the Midwest.
