Farmstead Primitive Co. has temporarily closed, but only long enough to relocate to a new, larger location. Allyson Matrisch opened the boutique retail store in November 2019, just in time for COVID to hit, she noted.
The initial location on North Main Street in Chatham had a lot of traffic, but lacked visibility. We were behind the bank, and I would get people coming in every day who would say they lived in Chatham and had no idea we were there, Matrisch said.
She also wanted to expand the stores product offerings. When we first opened, we were more farmhouse décor, but Chatham people love their clothing, Matrisch said. She also decided to expand her line of childrens products and gift items, noting that those have proven to be popular.
On Jan. 14, Matrisch will start a lease for space at 1029 Jason Place. The new location in the County Market shopping center will provide a lot more visibility, and twice as much square footage, she said. I wanted to expand, and the space I was in previously didnt offer that option.
Matrisch said the new space will only require minor updates and she plans to reopen Feb. 1.
