A popular format for films is coming to Springfield as AMC Showplace Springfield 12 gets an upgrade to Imax.
The Springfield Department of Public Works has approved a building permit for a 4,000-square-foot remodel of Auditorium 8 at Showplace 12, located at 3141 Mercantile Dr.
The remodel includes a new projection system, speakers, seating, wall and floor finishes, and an eyeglass washer, suggesting the new Imax auditorium will feature 3D showings. Construction on the project appears to have begun.
A representative of AMC Theaters Inc. could not be reached for comment.
