Fire breaks out at Club Station House

The Springfield Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at 306 E. Washington in downtown around 6 a.m. this morning. Club Station House occupies the lower level of the building, which has residential units on the second and third floors. No injuries were initially reported.

Last year, owner Ryan Bandy announced plans to relocate the bar and sell the building as part of a proposed development to build a new hotel downtown. The city council approved $7.65 million of tax increment financing to subsidize the project, including $450,000 for property acquisition.

However, the deal fell through a day before the scheduled closing and Bandy kept the bar open. Club Station House has been closed since March 17 due to Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order and was undergoing renovations.
