Matto: Pies + Pints, a restaurant focused on
pizza, wings and beer, is closing after less than a year of operation.
The new concept from the team behind Vele,
Curate and Soleil Café opened at 2936 S. Sixth St. in February. Nickey Sperry, along
with her husband, Dan Sperry, and executive chef Justin Richardson make up the
parent company, Three Gen Hospitality Group.
However, an Oct. 10 Facebook post from the business said the location “has proven to be unsustainable,” citing ongoing battles with the landlord over “various building problems and…Hertz Rental taking up most of our parking spaces with their rental cars.”
The space previously housed Rosati’s Pizza, a Chicago-style deep dish pizza chain that closed its Springfield location in March 2022.
The post said Matto would cease operations as of
Monday, Oct. 16, but noted, “We are hopeful to revive the concept in the near
future at a new location – stay tuned!”
Matto gift cards will be accepted at both Vele
and Curate through the end of 2024.
