A seed planted during an internship at a Rochester tax services firm early in Jason Beatty’s career has culminated in Beatty launching his own Springfield-based financial services firm.
Beatty, who is opening Beatty Wealth Management and Tax Services, said while an intern, he saw clients coming to the tax services firm with questions their investment planner should have already answered. He hopes to address this issue by creating a one-stop shop for financial services.
“I saw the holes between a financial planning firm and a tax firm, and people deserve better,” he said. “The vision is to create a firm that brings wealth management and tax planning together under one roof.”
As of July 15, Beatty’s new firm will be offering a full gamut of financial planning services, including Medicare open enrollment assistance in the fall and tax planning and preparation in the spring.
Beatty is a certified financial planner (CFP) and a federally licensed tax practitioner, holding the enrolled agent (EA) designation. He is also a retirement income certified professional (RICP), which means he can assist clients with Medicare planning.
The new business will be located in the Beatty TeleVisual building at 1287 Wabash Ave. Beatty’s family long operated the Beatty TeleVisual audio-visual company out of the building before his father’s retirement. The family is now transitioning the space to operate as a business commons with other small businesses, such as Rosin Media, renting office space there.
“My family has been at this location for 46 years helping the community,” Beatty said. “I wanted to keep my business, operating with the Beatty name, at the same location.”
Beatty worked for the family AV business for a couple years after graduating from college but soon realized he wanted to pursue a different career path. He earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign then went on to work for firms such as Morgan Stanley and AIG Retirement Services (now Corebridge Financial) before eventually returning to the Springfield market — to the very building that housed the family firm.
“I trusted my gut that this was the right thing to do,” Beatty said. “To create my own firm and be here where I could help my dad as he ages.”
