The Brandt-Thomas Educational Center was established in September 2014 by Evelyn Brandt-Thomas in honor of her husband, Gordon Thomas. Her desire was to honor her husband and provide skill development and social interaction opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The Educational Center recently moved to a new facility, located at 3240 Hedley Road, to expand the programs and services offered and has been renamed the Educational Center for the Visually Impaired.
The Educational Center provides education, training and development opportunities for people who are blind or visually impaired. Services include free classes and assistive technology devices to make life easier.
October is Blind Awareness Month and the Educational Center for the Visually Impaired is celebrating with a grand opening of the new facility to be held on Thursday, Oct. 25. The ribbon cutting will be at 4:45 p.m. and an open house will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The new office at 3240 Hedley Road in Springfield is located just west of Brandt Consolidated headquarters.
