Downtown sushi restaurants close

Friday, July 27 was the last day of business for Stop and Roll, a downtown sushi restaurant located at 210 S. Fifth St. Between being situated next to Floyd’s Thirst Parlor (complete with a connecting door) and keeping late night hours, it was popular with both lunch patrons and the after-hours crowd.

Owner Erik Larson has a long history in the local restaurant scene, having worked for Pao Pacific Coast Cuisine, American Harvest Eatery and Augies Front Burner, among others. He opened Stop and Roll two years ago, and in a Facebook post announcing the closure of the business said, “It is with a VERY heavy heart that we must say goodbye. We are moving on to the next chapter of our lives, and we thank you for being a part of this one.”

Sobi Sushi, another downtown sushi restaurant that had been open for a little over a year, also closed earlier this month. On July 6, owner Tuyen Nguyen announced it would be the last day of operations for the restaurant at 420 E. Monroe St. However, he has since opened an alterations and dry cleaning business at the same location called Stitchworks.
