Abe’s Old Hat, the downtown antique store owned by Mike and Trudy Naylor, has closed after 16 years in business.
Saturday was the last day of business at the shop at 111 N. Sixth St. However, the Naylors are not retiring from the antiques business. They will continue to sell antiques at markets and shows and online, Mike Naylor said.
“It’s just a combination of my health and we’re just doing a lot better at shows and on the markets,” he said.
The Naylors regularly traveled to antique markets and shows prior to opening the brick-
and-mortar location of Abe’s Old Hat in 2010.
“That’s what we did before we opened the store,” Naylor said. “We’re kind of going back to my roots.”
They have booked their first show already and will be at the Gathering on the Prairie antique and primitives show at the Otto Center in Arthur, Illinois, on Nov. 14. In addition, they will have a booth at the County Seat Antique Mall in Benton. Or interested customers will still be able to find them online.
“We have really enjoyed the past 16 years, the many friends and customers we have made and the many memories,” the Naylors said in a social media post about the closing.
