Tiffany Mathis Posey, the former CEO and executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois, stepped into a new role this week as director of program development at the Illinois Education Association.
Friday was Posey’s last day at BGCCI, an organization she has led for the last six and a half years. Posey, who is a mother of four, said that while she loved her time at the Club, she found herself needing more flexibility in her schedule.
“Being a CEO is a 24/7 job,” she said. “My kids are getting older, and I was needing to show up for them in a different way.”
At the IEA, the state’s largest union, Posey oversees statewide leadership development programs, conferences and events, technology systems, facilities and organizational operations that support more than 135,000 members. She said working with an organization focused on supporting state educators was a perfect next step for her.
“It’s still focused on education, so I’m still able to affect change for youth and their families,” she said.
Emily Bergschneider, chief operations officer at BGCCI, is now serving as interim CEO of the organization.
“Emily’s been with the club 22 years,” Posey said. “She’s an incredible person — very passionate about the youth and families we serve.”
Posey first joined BGCCI in 2008 as a unit director in the Jacksonville area. She left the organization in 2010, then returned in 2015, serving as central unit director in Springfield and going on to work in resource development and government relations before being named CEO at the beginning of 2020.
During her tenure, the club expanded its services from nine to 22 locations and tripled its operating budget from $1.2 million to $3.8 million.
“Obviously I miss my Club family,” Posey said. “I’d been there a total of 12 years. But this job opportunity was just the perfect fit for me.”
Posey was named one of Springfield Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in 2018.
