Plaza Tire Service is entering the Springfield market with its first area location under construction at 2625 Prairie Crossing Drive.
The new 6,600-square-foot tire and automotive service center, located on an outlot in front of Meijer, is slated to open in early fall, according to Jennifer Steele, Plaza Tire spokesperson.
“The Springfield region continues to be an attractive Midwest market with consistent demand, making expansion into the area a strategic opportunity to extend the network’s coverage,” Steele said.
Rhodes Development Co., an entity associated with Plaza Tire, purchased the 1.82-acre outlot in January for $680,000, according to Sangamon County tax records. Boulder Construction is the contractor for the project, which is valued at $2.3 million, according to a building permit issued by the city.
Steele said available jobs at the Springfield location will be searchable on the company’s career page “in the upcoming weeks.”
Plaza Tire has been serving the Midwest for more than 60 years, with locations in Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, and Illinois, including its automotive center in Virden, the closest current Plaza Tire location to Springfield.
Plaza Tire became part of the Sun Auto Network, an independent tire and automotive service platform that includes more than 550 locations nationwide, in 2021. The two Checkpoint Tire and Service Centers in Chatham are part of the Sun Auto Network.
