Bob’s Discount Furniture held a grand opening Feb. 13 for its Springfield location in Southwest Plaza, one of three central Illinois stores to open this month.

In August, the national retailer began renovation work at 3251 S. Veterans Parkway. The former Bed Bath & Beyond space had been vacant since early 2023, when it was one of hundreds of stores shuttered nationwide as part of the retailer’s attempt to avoid bankruptcy.

In addition to Friday’s ribbon cutting in Springfield, Bob’s Discount Furniture held a grand opening for its Champaign store the same day, also located in a former Bed Bath & Beyond. The retailer held a Feb. 9 ribbon cutting for a store in East Peoria, located in a former OfficeMax.

At the Springfield grand opening, manager Robert St. Clair presented $2,500 donations to The James Project and Harvard Park Elementary School. The retailer supports numerous charitable causes through its outreach programs.

Bob’s Discount Furniture has more than 200 stores across 26 states, making it one of the fastest-growing furniture retailers, according to the company’s website.  Last year, the Connecticut-based company announced plans to open an additional 20 stores, including its first stores in Vermont and North Carolina.
