It's said that bad news comes in threes, and Maryflor Mexican Restaurant became the third downtown business in just two weeks to announce it would be closing.
A notice posted on the door at 2 Old State Capitol Plaza Monday stated the restaurant would permanently close July 20. It read in part:
"After years of sharing moments, flavors, smiles, and traditions with all of your, the time has come to close this chapter. This decision was not easy, but it is part of a new phase for our family and dreams.
We are deeply thankful to each one of you for your support, your kindness and allowing us to be part of your table. We leave with unforgettable memories and the pride of having served with love and dedication."
Owners Marco and Flora Alonzo-Gomes opened the restaurant in 2021, serving lunch and dinner. The family also operates a restaurant in Clinton, which will remain open.
Jerk Shop Go announced its immediate closure on June 23, while The Wakery - located just a few doors down from Maryflor - announced July 5 that it would close as of Aug. 10.
