Stevenson will start his new role as editor-in-chief of CapitolCityNow.com on May 5. He will also have some anchoring and reporting duties and be the fill-in host for WTAX Morning Newswatch.

Stevenson was previously employed at WTAX from 2015-2017, first as a news anchor and later as news director.

Since leaving Springfield, Stevenson has worked for Midwest Communications in Peoria with WMBD radio and most recently as a news anchor with Galesburg Broadcasting Co.

“It’s been a very difficult job market; a lot of radio stations have struggled since COVID,” said Stevenson. “I was laid off from my job (with Galesburg Broadcasting) about six months ago.”

Stevenson said he had kept in touch with Chris Bullock, the general manager for Capitol Media Group, the parent company that operates WTAX and six other radio stations.

“I had sent a resume to let him know I was available if he had anything come up, and I was flattered when Chris reached out to me,” Stevenson said. “Several of my former coworkers put in a good word for me as well.”

Stevenson said he plans to move back to Springfield by the end of the month. “I still have a lot of friends there, and I wanted to be in a place I was familiar with,” he said.

“A lot of what I’ll be doing with CapitolCityNow I’ve done for a good portion of my career, so I’m looking forward to a slightly new challenge.”
