Scooter's Coffee expanding to Chatham

Scooter’s Coffee is expanding into Chatham with plans to build a new location this spring.

Franchise owners Marcus and Lauryn McGlasson are Pleasant Plains residents who opened their first Scooter’s location in Taylorville in 2021, followed by a store at 2935 Clear Lake Ave. in December 2022 and a second Springfield location at 1740 Wabash Ave. in March 2023.

Now the couple has purchased the property at 1220 N. Main St. in Chatham, which was formerly a Country Financial office. Megan Henley Brown relocated her insurance agency to 309 N. Main St., inside Trendsetters Floral, in November.

Lauryn McGlasson said they are in the process of finalizing a lease for the office building and the Scooter’s kiosk will be built in front of it.

“The timing really depends on the village of Chatham; we’re in the permitting process right now. And of course, the weather – you can’t start building anything in January. I would hope that we could get started in the spring,” she said.

The couple also has a Scooter’s location in Indiana, with others in the works. “We’ve got a lot going on in Indiana,” McGlasson said.

The Nebraska-based Scooter’s Coffee chain has grown aggressively, from 75 locations nationwide in 2010 to 800 franchises in 29 states by last year. According to World Coffee Portal, an industry publication, it is now the second-largest drive-through coffee chain in the U.S. and the fifth-largest coffee chain overall.

McGlasson said the Chatham location will have the same operating hours as the Springfield stores, 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m., seven days a week. The Scooter’s locations serve breakfast all day, which she said has been very popular with customers.
