Apartment complex proposed near Wells Fargo

A prominent Springfield developer is proposing a new apartment complex on the city's west side.

Courtney Joyner, owner of Joyner Construction Services Inc., is seeking approval for a 204-unit development to be named Pleasant Park Apartments.

The development would be located at 4700 Ash Grove Drive and include 17 apartment buildings with 12 units each. A separate office building and garage structures would also be built on the site. The apartments would be accessible from Ash Grove Drive, with Wells Fargo to the west and Coz's Pizza & Pub to the east.

The Land Development & Subdivision Planning Committee of the Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission is scheduled to discuss the proposal at its April 6 meeting. The project is still in the early stages of approval.

Also under consideration before the committee is a variance request for Springfield Technology Park, located across Interstate 72 from the proposed apartments. The park currently hosts Altorfer Inc. and The Boat Dock. The variance would replat some of the existing unused lots and eliminate a proposed access road connecting International Parkway to Rising Moon Road. W.J. Sallenger Inc. in Glenarm owns Springfield Technology Park.

Martin Engineering Company in Springfield is the engineer on both projects.

The committee will also consider a handful of new storage development proposals at its April 6 meeting.
