Dr. Lucore steps down as president and CEO of HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield

Dr. Charles L. Lucore, president and CEO of HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, is leaving HSHS for a new position as president of St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York.

“This opportunity came to light quickly and my decision was not an easy one,” said Lucore. “It required many hours

of discernment and discussion with my family. As a result of this reflection, I am confident that returning home to the northeast is in the best interests of my family while also a positive step professionally. I’m sincerely grateful to HSHS for the years that I’ve been blessed to be part of the HSHS family as a physician and administrator. It was an honor to serve St. John’s to further the mission of our Hospital Sisters of St Francis and Catholic healthcare.”

Lucore joined the HSHS family in 1992 as a cardiologist when he became part of Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants. During his time at Prairie, he assumed various leadership roles including secretary of Prairie’s board of directors and executive director of Prairie Heart Institute. Under his leadership, Prairie was recognized as a national leader by such organizations as Healthgrades, Thomson Reuters and Consumer Reports. In 2012, Lucore assumed leadership responsibilities in the HSHS Central Illinois Division, serving as vice president and chief clinical integration officer. He has served as president and CEO at St. John’s since April 2014.

Lucore’s last day with HSHS will be Oct. 31. E.J. Kuiper, president and CEO of the HSHS Central Illinois Division, will serve as interim president at St. John’s while a nationwide search for a replacement is conducted.
