CWLP to begin accepting applications for small business utility rebate

On Dec. 1, the Springfield City Council passed an ordinance to provide utility rebates to small businesses that have been impacted by COVID.

The COVID Relief - CWLP Small Business Program uses money from the Environmental and Regulatory Initiatives and Relief Fund (ERIRF) to assist eligible small businesses with utility rebates of up to $3,000 per business.  There is a total of $1 million allocated for this program and CWLP will begin accepting applications on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 9 a.m.

Businesses must be CWLP customers located within Springfield corporate limits and fall into one of the following categories:

  • Small businesses in rate classes 40, 42, 44 or 46*
  • Independent restaurants and bars
  • Veterans associations operating commercial kitchens
*Customer Rate Class is listed on page 1 of the CWLP bill in chart as “Rate” located next to meter number

Rebates will be made to those qualified applicants demonstrating financial hardship until all funding is exhausted. Those awarded rebates will receive a credit on their January or February CWLP bill for coverage of August and September 2020 billing of electric charges up to $3,000.
