A second franchise of Dunkin' Donuts is in the works for Springfield.
Nick Bhatt, owner of the existing Dunkin' Donuts franchise at 102 Chatham Road, says he has been working to establish a second franchise for about three years. Bhatt, who opened the first franchise in 2014, is seeking approval to develop a piece of the current parking lot at Habitat for Humanity Restore, 2744 S. Sixth St. The proposed second Dunkin' Donuts would be directly west of the existing ReStore building.
The location was chosen because of the influx of morning traffic into Springfield coming from the south via Sixth Street, Bhatt says.
The Land Development & Subdivision Planning Committee of the Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission is slated to consider the request at its May 4 meeting. Martin Engineering is the engineer on the project.
