Trade Winds Pub and Eatery, the restaurant next door to Knight’s Action Park, has closed.
Owner Doug Knight said staff were informed of the closing on Sunday, and the restaurant did not open for business on Monday.
“There’s no easy way to do this, but it’s just not performing like it should,” Knight said.
Knight said he plans to use the Trade Winds building, located at 1700 Recreation Drive, as a training facility for the Knight’s Action Park staff. He said he may also rent out the space for other entities to use for training or for other events.
Meanwhile, it will continue be business as usual at Knight’s Action Park.
“I’m looking to focus on the culture of Knight’s Action Park and find ways to help build a top-performing staff — not only for my business but for the future of Springfield,” Knight said.
Trade Winds originally opened in the 1980s and was known for the live music performances on its outdoor patio area. The original version of Trade Winds closed in 1990, and the building sat vacant until Doug Knight reopened the space in 2017 as a restaurant and bar, serving lunch and dinner.
