After 35 years in business, The Rock Shop is closing June 30. Owner Todd Rushing also operates a second business, Full Throttle T Shirt Co., out of the location at 1808 W. Jefferson in Springfield.

“We’re going to shutter the music store and continue with the screen printing and embroidery,” Rushing stated, although he said he has not decided on the new location for the t-shirt business.

In March, SBJ reported that Springfield Mowers & Power Equipment had purchased The Rock Shop building nearby.  Owner Rob Kalabus said the move would nearly triple the space available for his showroom and shop, although he did not anticipate opening in the new location until September.

In the meantime, Rushing said he will be having a “make me an offer” sale, rather than a going out of business sale. The business currently has one full-time employee, along with a repair person on contract, and Rushing said he expects both to move to one of the other music stores in town.

“People will still be able to get their guitars and amps repaired,” he said. “I taught them everything I know, and I’ve been doing this myself for 25 years. It’s been a lot of fun. It feels like it’s been 10 years, not 25.”
