The Music Shoppe opens on Constitution Drive

The Music Shoppe opened April 29 in a new location at 2940 Constitution Dr. in Springfield. The store is the first new tenant in the shopping center formerly anchored by Carpet Weavers and Friar Tucks, which has been vacant since 2013. Ram Talluri, a local business owner who is also the franchisee for the nearby Sky Zone, purchased the shopping center at auction at the end of 2017 and it has been undergoing renovations. Talluri also owns the adjacent storage units and the recently constructed retail building across the street now occupied by Gypsy Soul and Little Lincoln’s Toys.

The Music Shoppe is based out of Bloomington-Normal, where the original location opened in 1961. In 1989, a second location opened in Champaign-Urbana. Then three years ago, a Springfield location was added after The Music Shoppe purchased Daddy O’s Music Shack. Since then, The Music Shoppe has been operating out of Daddy O’s previous location at 1405 Stevenson Dr.

The Music Shoppe changed ownership on Sept. 1, 2018, when Jonathon Breen purchased the business from his uncle, Randy Wood. Breen is the third generation to work in the family-owned business, which was started by his grandparents.

In December 2018, SBJ broke the news that The Music Shoppe was planning to relocate.
