The Alamo "pausing" food service after 40 years

After more than 40 years, The Alamo will no longer offer food service, at least for now. Located at 115 N. Fifth St. in downtown Springfield, the business has decided to temporarily discontinue food service and focus only on the bar, according to an emailed statement that also referenced “the absence of other open offices and businesses, and therefore traffic, in the downtown area.”

Owner Barry Friedman said, “This is so regrettable after providing a quality and respectable lunch for so many years, and we hate to be unavailable to the loyal customers that we have, but we can no longer sustain the food costs with so few people downtown.”

The last day The Alamo will serve lunch will be Friday, July 24. However, the business will continue to open at 11 a.m. for bar service and have live music on the weekends.
