Spirit Christmas, the holiday-themed sister shop to Spirit Halloween, will be opening a store in Springfield next month as part of a national expansion of the brand.
The current Spirit Halloween store at 3329 S. Veterans Parkway, in the former Party City building, will swap seasonal motifs and transition into a Spirit Christmas store in November. A representative for the company said an exact opening date for Spirit Christmas has not been set, adding that the Spirit Halloween stores typically stay open until inventory is sold out.
Spirit Christmas stores feature holiday items ranging from ornaments and inflatables to holiday apparel and stocking stuffers. Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc., which owns Spirit Halloween and the Spencer’s retail chain, introduced the Spirit Christmas brand in 2024. The company expects to open 44 Spirit Christmas stores this year. By comparison, the company operates more than 1,550 Spirit Halloween stores across North America.
In addition to the Springfield location, Spirit Christmas is opening three other Illinois stores — in Aurora, Bloomingdale and Joliet.
The expansion of the Spirit Christmas brand follows Spencer Spirit Holdings’ recent acquisition of Hot Topic Inc., the owner of the Hot Topic, BoxLunch and Her Universe retail brands. The deal expanded the company’s total retail footprint to more than 3,000 stores.
Party City closed all 800 of its stores nationwide in early 2025 after filing for bankruptcy for the second time in two years.
