Local flooring company Arizona Tile Co. has a new owner as its founders, Cary and Sheryl Daugherty, head toward retirement.

Zach Mast, who has worked in the local flooring industry for 13 years, purchased the company in a deal that closed on Wednesday. Mast said he saw the Daugherty’s listing seeking a new owner for the company and decided to reach out.

“It was always my goal to be a business owner, so I decided to go for it,” he said.

Mast will be tweaking the company name slightly — going from Arizona Tile Co. to Arizona Tile and Flooring Co. The expanded name fits Mast’s vision to increase the company’s offerings of carpet, wood flooring and vinyl planking.

Currently, tile accounts for about 65% of the company’s business, Mast said, with wood flooring and carpet comprising about 15% of sales each and vinyl planking making up the remainder. Mast said he believes there is a local market to expand sales in those now-secondary sectors.

One way he hopes to reach this goal is by stocking what is now Arizona Tile’s outlet center with vinyl planking and carpet at contractor-pricing levels. Higher end flooring options will continue to be featured in the company’s main show room. Arizona Tile operates out of a 30,000-square-foot facility at 3100 Cockrell Lane.

The Daughertys founded Arizona Tile in 1995. Mast, who previously worked for Springfield-based Staff Carpet, said he appreciates the positive reputation the Daughertys and their business have in the local industry.

“They have such a well-known name in the community, and their employees are wonderful people,” Mast said.

Arizona Tile’s new store hours will be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
