MOD Pizza being evicted from Springfield location

MOD Pizza’s presence in Springfield was short-lived.

On April 19, Sangamon County Judge Jennifer Ascher issued an order to vacate to the parent company, MOD Super Fast Pizza LLC, in response to an eviction complaint filed by the property owner, NIKJEF Springfield LLC. The landlord was awarded a $37,931 judgment.

MOD Pizza opened at 2401 Wabash Ave. in May 2021, sharing the site with Mission BBQ, which is under different ownership.

The Washington-based pizza chain got its start in Seattle in 2008 and currently has more than 560 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. The fast-casual restaurant’s name is an acronym for “made on demand,” and the company has been called the “Chipotle of the pizza industry” by QSR News, a restaurant trade publication.

Plans to bring MOD Pizza and neighboring tenant Mission BBQ to Springfield were first announced in 2019, although the opening of both restaurants was delayed until early 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quattro Development, a real estate services firm based in Oak Brook, Illinois, demolished the former Town and Country Bank building on an outlot of White Oaks Mall to construct a new 5,900-square-foot building to house the two restaurants. The property was later sold to an out-of-state investor.

Representatives from MOD Pizza did not respond to inquiries regarding when the Springfield location would be closing.
