Springfield’s only LA Fitness location is closing, with local gym FitClub acquiring the location’s membership base and equipment.

Friday, July 31, is the last day of business for the LA Fitness located at the White Oaks Mall at 2501 Wabash Ave., according to an employee at the location.

Local LA Fitness memberships will transfer to FitClub as of Aug. 1, providing members access to all three of FitClub’s Springfield locations for the first 60 days, according to an announcement from FitClub.

“This is a meaningful moment for FitClub and for the Springfield fitness community,” Nathan Imhoff, CEO of FitClub, said in a statement. “We know that a club closure can create uncertainty for members, and our goal is to make this transition as smooth and welcoming as possible.”

FitClub also will honor unused LA Fitness personal training sessions. In its announcement about the deal, FitClub said it will be providing additional communication directly to transferred members.

“Our goal is to give LA Fitness members a smooth landing, clear communication and a local fitness community that is ready to welcome them from day one,” Imhoff said in the statement.

Locally owned and family operated, FitClub has locations at 2811 W. Lawrence Ave., 3631 S. Sixth St., and 2710 E. Sangamon Ave.  FitClub said in a Facebook post that equipment acquired from LA Fitness would be integrated “throughout our clubs.” Specifically, FitClub’s Lawrence Avenue location will be closed Aug. 1. and Aug. 2 while new equipment is moved in and facility improvements are completed, according to the posting.

LA Fitness is part of California-based Fitness International LLC, which has more than 700 locations across the U.S. and Canada operating under the LA Fitness, Esporta Fitness, City Sports Club and Club Studio names.
