Owner Jan Parkes has announced plans to close her boutique, J. Parkes, as of Dec. 31. She and her sister, Ann, operate the retail store at 315 Chatham Rd. that offers a variety of unique clothing, jewelry and home décor items.
In a message to customers posted on the business’ website, Parkes said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed making wearable art and curating collections of merchandise for you all these years. Few people have had the luxury of spending their careers in a job they loved every single day, and for that you have my undying gratitude.”
The business was established in 1988, and Parkes hinted that it would be reinvented in 2021 once the brick-and-mortar location closes.
“I am pivoting towards my next and possibly biggest adventure yet….artirement,” said Parkes, referencing a phrase her sister coined to describe an artist with time to invest in making works of art.
