John Roman, who opened It’s All About Wine in 2006 after operating the local Famous Liquors store for many years, has sold the business to new owners. However, regular customers of the business located at 1305 Wabash Ave. won’t notice any drastic changes.

The selection of merchandise and store hours will remain the same, and Dick Countryman, who has managed the store since 2012, says he will be continuing in that role. However, he said one change he anticipates is an increase in different types of pairing and tasting events. Plans also call for offering more educational classes and customer loyalty events.

New owners are Richard Scott and his daughter, Nancy Sweet, along with her husband, Zach. Scott is also the owner of another local business, Don Smith Paint and Wallpaper. Nancy works as director of the culinary program and operations at Lincoln Land Community College, while Zach is employed by the Illinois State Treasurer’s office.

“Between my father’s retail experience and my culinary background, I think we’ll both bring some expertise to this new venture,” said Nancy. “Many of our offerings will remain unchanged, but we are continuing to expand the selections for our customers. There’s a lot of interesting wines out there.”

It’s All About Wine already hosts a variety of live music events and charity fundraisers, but Nancy said she hopes to continue to expand the offerings. “We are a retail store where you can come in and purchase a bottle of wine, but you can also come and share a bottle of wine with friends and bring your own food in,” she explained. “We want to continue to be everyone’s favorite wine bar and encourage people to spend time there.”

“We’re really excited about this, and want to partner with other businesses in the community to help make Springfield an even better place than it already is.”
