The
Illinois Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association has
relocated, but the move is only temporary.

“We had
to vacate our office because of imminent domain,” said Billy Serbousek,
executive vice president, referring to NECA’s previous headquarters at 3701 S.
Sixth St. “Illinois Department of Transportation is acquiring our property and
tearing it down as part of the planned Sixth Street expansion.”

NECA has
purchased the nearby building at 6405 Canadian Cross Dr., which previously
housed Prairie Engineers, but doesn’t anticipate being able to move in until winter
of 2024.

“We’re building an addition as well as doing a full remodel,” said Serbousek. The
addition will add approximately 1,500 square feet to the existing
3,500-square-foot space.

In the
meantime, NECA is operating out of office space at 3900 Pintail Dr., Suite B.

John
Shafer is the architect for the project, and Serbousek said, “We’re hoping to
put it out to bid by the middle of January.”
