Haxel Law has expanded its downtown Springfield office and added two additional attorneys.
Located at 310 Adams St., the firm’s office now includes adjoining space within its existing downtown location. Founding attorney Martin Haxel said the expansion strengthens the firm’s operational capacity while contributing to sustained use of downtown office space.
“The expansion of our downtown Springfield office allows us to better serve our clients while maintaining a strong presence in the heart of the city,” said Martin Haxel.
Co-owner Laurie Haxel told SBJ that the law firm has expanded into the adjacent space that was formerly occupied by The Keep Store. That business closed in July 2025.
Jason Schutte, who has nearly 20 years of litigation experience, has joined the firm as a partner. David Moss has become affiliated with the firm as of counsel and brings more than 40 years of experience in personal injury, workers’ compensation and social security disability.
In addition to its downtown Springfield expansion, Haxel Law has opened a small, complementary office in Quincy. The Quincy location will extend client access in western Illinois, while the expanded Springfield office remains the firm’s primary operational and regional hub.
Laurie told SBJ the plan is to relocate Haxel Law and the couple’s other business, Haxel Consulting, to 322 E. Adams St. once renovations are complete. The Haxels purchased the former bank building at the corner of Fourth and Adams streets in May 2023 and the Springfield City Council later approved a TIF request to help offset some of the costs associated with a projected $3 million renovation of the long-vacant property.
“We had plans drawn up; I thought we were really close to getting started,” Laurie said of the renovations. “Then we had a glitch when we had a prospective first-floor tenant who backed out. We had to go back and redo the financing, the drawings.”
Laurie said there will be about 4,500 square feet of vanilla shell space available on the lower level and the couple will have their offices on the second floor.
“We got an extension until July 2027 on the TIF agreement, but activity should be starting soon,” she said.
