Feldco Windows, Siding and Doors originally opened for business 40 years ago in Chicago, and the original showroom in Evergreen Park still serves Chicago area residents. The company is now headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois and has expanded to include operations in Rockford and Peoria, along with three locations in Wisconsin and a new location in Davenport serving the Quad Cities.
The company is now preparing to open their first location in Springfield and has leased the building at 719 Estill Drive. In January, Springfield Business Journal reported that the Springfield Airport Authority had purchased the former Newman Alton headquarters and was seeking a tenant for the space.
“We service the Midwest, and Springfield is a market we’ve always had our eye on since we came into central Illinois with our Peoria location back in 2010,” said Ron Gerstung, the company’s president. “We’re getting close to covering the entire state at this point.”
Feldco markets directly to consumers and the staff generally meets with people in their homes, which was a factor in considering where to locate the Springfield store. “When someone calls to have us come out and look at their windows, siding, or doors, everything is done in the home,” explained Gerstung. “We don’t need to have high retail visibility for a lot of walk in traffic, but we want to be in a location where if someone did have a desire to come to our showroom they would feel comfortable.”
Cody Russell will be the general manager for the new Springfield location. He had been working at the Peoria store, but since his wife has family in the Springfield area he requested a transfer when the position became available. Gerstung said they anticipate hiring a total of three to five local people for sales positions and already have one new hire taking part in a training class going on now.
“Springfield is not an entirely new market for us since we’ve already been covering Peoria and Bloomington,” said Gerstung. “We’ve had some Springfield customers in the past, and we’re already taking appointments and selling contracts in this area.”
“We are driven by delighting our customers. In this industry, it’s a pretty low bar. For most homeowners, you have an expectation that when you need something done around your house you’re going to call five people, maybe get three to call you back and one to show up. We don’t just want our customers to be satisfied with our service, we want them to be so delighted they tell everyone about their great experience.”
