Eagle Golf and Grill, a public golf training facility with a full-service restaurant and bar, has opened on Springfield’s west side. The location at 3941 Pintail Drive includes five golf simulator bays, a 1,200-square-foot indoor putting and chipping green and a training area for students, in addition to the restaurant and bar.

Jim Lee co-owns the business along with his wife, Amber Lee, and Josh Edison, a golf coach at Illinois College in Jacksonville. Chatham native Marc Reeves is serving as the executive chef.

Augie Mrozowski, who previously owned and operated Augie’s Front Burner in downtown Springfield, is also involved in the culinary side of the operations. “Jim and Augie had been neighbors for years, and Augie helped design our kitchen, develop the menu, and get things up and running,” Edison said. “Augie will be serving a guest chef from time to time, and we’re planning a dinner event with Marc and Augie in the near future.”

However, the main focus of the business is offering year-round golf training. “If you think of the competitive sports market, we’re trying to serve that market for golf,” Jim Lee told SBJ when plans for the facility were first announced. “We’ll have a youth academy working with kids starting in junior high all the way through college.”

Edison said Lance Flurry, the head golf professional for the Springfield Park District, will be the lead instructor for the Imagine Junior Camp that begins Jan. 20. The six-week camp meets on Saturday mornings and has two age groups, 8-12 and 13-17.

“We’re hoping that other courses will want to host with us as well,” Edison said. Eagle Golf also offers space for corporate events, birthday parties and fundraisers.
