Whether you need equipment for your own business or want to purchase a piece of Springfield history, an upcoming auction of items from Del’s Popcorn Shop will have a variety of offerings.
Aumann Auctions is handling the liquidation sale for the Springfield location, which closed its doors in August. Rachelle “Shellie” Jacobs, who operated the location at 3013 Lindbergh Blvd., retired earlier this year after more than 40 years with the company. She declined comment to SBJ.
Jacobs purchased the business from her sister, Lou Ann Jacobs, in 1984. At the time, it was located in downtown Springfield. The west-side location opened in 2012 and later became the only Del’s retail store in Springfield after the downtown shop closed during the pandemic and never reopened. The Del’s Popcorn Shop in Mt. Zion continues to operate.
The family-owned business traces its roots back to 1934 and still uses the original recipes for its popcorn, fudge and peanut brittle. In addition to equipment and fixtures, the auction will include a collection of memorabilia and popcorn collectibles.
There are two separate auction catalogs that both end Wednesday, Nov. 19. The online-only bidding for the fixtures and equipment will close at 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. end time for the memorabilia. Items can be inspected from 3-6 p.m. on Nov. 18 and picked up at the Springfield location or buyers can arrange for shipping.
