Adams Pest Control moves into the former Springfield Archery building

After more than a decade on MacArthur Boulevard, Adams Pest Control has relocated to a significantly larger space. Owner Sonny Adams says he explored numerous options before purchasing the building at 1550 Recreation Dr., next to Knight’s Action Park.

Adams had leased the space at 1425 S. MacArthur Blvd. for more than a decade and talked to the owner about purchasing it and the adjacent properties, but ultimately felt the size was limiting, along with the fact that the property is a former house that’s been converted to an office. “We also looked at another building on MacArthur that we were going to completely renovate, but it got torn down due to environmental issues,” he said.

He considered new construction and looked at land in Sherman, but ran into issues with the village’s design restrictions since a portion of it would have been a steel building. Ultimately, Adams purchased the former Springfield Archery Building at the end of 2020 with plans to extensively remodel the space.

“The interior is 90% done, there are a few little cosmetic things left to do inside,” according to Adams, who said the focus was on completing the interior remodeling first, which allowed the business to begin operating out of the new location earlier this month. “The exterior will hopefully be complete later this summer; we’re getting a new roof in the next few weeks and the whole façade will get redone the first part of June,” he said.

With around 9,000 square feet, the new location not only expands the office operations but has warehouse space for a full working shop and vehicle storage. Adams said previously the employees had to take their vehicles home due to lack of space.

Adams said he’s looking forward to finishing up the renovations, particularly the exterior work. “It’s really going to change; people will take notice. It will be a modern, sharp look,” he said.
