Tuesday Morning, a discount home goods store, is closing more than half of all its stores nationwide, including the Springfield location.
On Feb. 14, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time in three years. In 2020, Tuesday Morning filed for bankruptcy and reduced its stores from around 700 to just under 500 nationwide. Now, an additional 263 stores are slated for closure, although the bankruptcy court will have to give final approval to the companys reorganization plans.
The Dallas-based retailer said in its bankruptcy filing that "immediate liquidation of the company's inventory at its under-performing store locations under the supervision of the bankruptcy court is the best strategy to maximize value for the benefit of creditors. According to the filing, the majority of the store closures will take about eight weeks to complete.
The Springfield store is located in the Town and County Shopping Center on MacArthur Boulevard. Stores in Peoria and Champaign are also slated for closure, along with two in the Chicago suburbs.
