The Taco Joint will be relocating soon, but the Mexican restaurant isnt going far.
Owner Hector Lopez is in the process of renovating the former Rallys building at 710 South Grand Ave. East, which has already been repainted with the bright colors of The Taco Joint, located just five blocks west in the parking lot of 230 South Grand Ave. East. The food truck has been parked there since 2017 and has picnic tables under a pergola for customers who choose to dine on-site.
Lopez said the move will allow him to offer a drive-thru for customers of The Taco Joint, but he plans to continue to operate at his current location as The Burger Joint.
Im still working on the menu, because my focus has been on getting The Taco Joint moved, but well have burgers and maybe some wings, said Lopez of the new venture.
Lopez said he plans to have The Taco Joint operating in its new location by May 1.
Rallys closed its remaining Springfield location in July 2022 after the Florida-based parent company did not renew the lease. It had operated at the South Grand location since 1989.
