Springfield Mowers & Power Equipment is preparing to move and expand and will leave its current leased space at 1514 W. Jefferson in Springfield later this year. Owner Rob Kalabus says he has purchased The Rock Shop building just down the street at 1808 W. Jefferson, which will nearly triple the space available for both his showroom and shop.
Kalabus has been leasing the former Habitat for Humanity building for the past three years after previously serving as the Springfield branch manager for German-Bliss Equipment. When German-Bliss left the local market, Kalabus opened Springfield Mowers & Power Equipment, and several other former employees joined him.
Kalabus says his store has already become the number one power equipment dealer in the area in terms of volume, and he hopes the physical expansion will also expand the potential customer base.
Most people dont drive more than half-an-hour to a mower place, but our business is a destination, like a SCHEELS, Kalabus explained. We want to be something that nobody else is in this area.
However, the move will not take place right away, due to renovations needed at the new location and timing. Our busy season is coming up; were not going to be able to move this summer, Kalabus said. He anticipates being in the new location in September.
