Lincoln Land Community College has changed the name of its training facility at 130 W. Mason, located in the Mid-Illinois Medical District and blocks away from two major hospitals, to LLCC-Medical District. The facility opened in 1999 as the Capital City Center and initially focused on workforce development for technology. However, the training opportunities have expanded to now include many programs in the health care field.
“Because of a focus on short-term, health care training, and our location in the heart of the Mid-Illinois Medical District, the Center will now be known as LLCC-Medical District,” said Paula Luebbert, LLCC assistant vice president for corporate/government training and economic development. “This name better reflects our connection to LLCC. Students interested in health care careers want options, and this is an opportunity to promote our short-term programs alongside the degree and certificate programs available at the college.”
The career programs offered at LLCC-Medical District include dental assistant, medical assistant, phlebotomy technician, CNA to medical assistant bridge, pharmacy technician, massage therapy, ECG technician and veterinary assistant. The programs can be completed in six months to one year and offer students the opportunity to gain experience with a local employer through an externship and a potential job before graduation.
Currently, several of the LLCC-Medical District training programs are being offered free of charge to students who qualify. The Open Door-Workforce Equity Initiative allows low-income students to attend with no tuition, receive assistance with childcare and transportation, a stipend and other support.
