After working in the restaurant industry for years, Felipe Gomez has now opened a restaurant of his own. Laguna Brava Mexican Restaurant opened Sunday, Nov. 21, in the former Los Agaves space at 2466 Wabash Ave. It's located in the Sherwood Plaza shopping center at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Veterans Parkway, next to Nothing Bundt Cakes.
“He’s always had a dream to open his own restaurant,” said his daughter, Juana Gomez, who works with her father in the business. The restaurant is currently staffed by family members, so she said the labor shortages in the food service industry haven’t presented a problem.
While the menu includes traditional Mexican dishes, there are also specialty items such as a baked potato fajita. “We’ll start introducing more authentic dishes as well,” said Gomez, noting that the tortillas are handmade. “We’re also still working on getting a liquor license.”
Laguna Brava is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
