Land of Lincoln Goodwill
Industries has a new store under construction in Chatham that is slated to open
in November.

“This will be an easier
shopping experience for everybody,” said Shelley Flynn Singleton, vice
president of marketing, communications and fund development. “The Chatham
community has been great to us, with lots of donations.”

Singleton said the
17,000-square-foot store at 135 Independence Boulevard with have an “open and
modern floor plan,” with an easily accessible donation area on the east side of
the building.

The site is just north of the current retail store in the Foxx Creek Plaza shopping center, where Goodwill
has been located since 2010. While it previously included a coffee shop and a
boutique, Singleton said the new store will be strictly retail, with boutique
items scattered throughout the store, rather than displayed separately.

The new store will also be
used to employ Goodwill’s clients. “We want to continue to support our mission,
and one of our goals is to have more of our participants work in the retail
store,” Singleton said. “Our whole premise is to put people to work at all
different levels. We want to give clients an opportunity to work, be
independent and feel good about what they’re doing.”
